What is Goodwood famous for?
Back to Top of ListGoodwood is famous for being one of the UK's most prestigious sporting estates, renowned worldwide for its iconic horse racing and motorsport events. Set within an 11,000-acre estate in West Sussex, Goodwood has a rich history dating back to 1697, when the first Duke of Richmond, the son of King Charles II, purchased the original Jacobean house as a country retreat.
The estate became a centre for horse racing in 1802 when the Duke of Richmond staged the first public race, laying the foundations for what is now one of Britain's most celebrated racing venues. Goodwood also played a significant role in motorsport history. Originally used as an RAF base during the Battle of Britain, the site was transformed into Goodwood Motor Circuit, which between 1948 and 1966 became the heart of British motor racing and hosted some of the sport's greatest drivers.
Today, Goodwood is recognised for its luxury experiences and world-renowned sporting events, including the Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival and the Qatar Goodwood Festival, attracting visitors from across the globe.

It brings together vintage motorcycles, classic Formula 1 cars, current supercars and concept vehicles that haven't even reached showrooms yet, all in one place.
The centrepiece is the Hillclimb, a 1.16 mile run up Goodwood House's driveway where drivers push historic and modern machinery flat out. Beyond the track, visitors get open access to the paddocks, bringing them close to the cars, riders and drivers rather than watching from a distance. The whole thing sits somewhere between a high-speed motorsport event and a summer garden party.

Goodwood Revival Dates: Held annually every September at Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester, West Sussex, PO18 0PH
What to wear to Goodwood revival? What is the dress code?
Dressing up is part of the experience, though there's no obligation to do so. Plenty of visitors take it as far as a full period outfit, others simply add a scarf, hat or single vintage piece to something they already own. The dress code leans on 1940s, 50s and 60s style, and there's plenty of room to interpret it your own way, whether that means hunting down a genuine vintage find, picking up something modern with a retro edge, or reworking an existing outfit with a few era touches. Read more about being Revival Ready and Vintage Shopping in Chichester.
How to buy tickets to Goodwood revival: Tickets for Goodwood Revival can be purchased on their website here.
Parking at Goodwood Revival: Free parking opens each day from 07:00. it is worth noting that all of the car parks are on grass, so be mindful of this when selecting your footwear.

Courtesy shuttles run across all car parks for anyone who needs help reaching the entrance, and wheelchairs (both electric and manual) can be pre-booked through Shopmobility, based near the disabled parking in Car Park D (0300 500 8085).
Displaying your car at the Revival Car Show: Owners of pre-1966 or tax-exempt vehicles can apply for a space in the Revival Car Show parking area. It's free to book but places go quickly, so early application is worthwhile.
EV parking: No dedicated EV charging is available at any of the event car parks due to their location.

The Markel Magnolia Cup: This charity race opens Ladies' Day on the home straight, with a line-up of women from a wide range of backgrounds rather than professional jockeys. It's grown into a platform that's helped shift how women in sport are seen, built on the riders' determination as much as their racing.
