Sussex makes top travel list
Sitting alongside exotic locations across the globe like the Peruvian Amazon, Uganda and Florida's Space Coast, Sussex has been named on Conde Nast Traveller's list of places to go in 2025. The feature includes mentions for the soon-to-reopen Swan Inn at Fittleworth, and Newlands House Gallery in the market town of Petworth. The magazine sites "cozy new openings and a buzzy creative scene" for its inclusion, asking "Could West Sussex take the 2025 title of the new Cotswolds?" “You never know – we’ve certainly got plenty more vineyards.”
West Sussex is lauded for its culture and creative buzz as well as opportunities for coastal exploring on the new King Charles III Coastpath. The section connecting East Head at West Wittering to Shoreham by Sea opened in autumn 2023, with the leg heading west towards Hayling Island slated for opening in autumn 2025. This mix of foodie news and cultural offerings leads the author to conclude that West Sussex is "set to be as fashionable in 2025 as it was in its 19th-century heyday when Turner and Constable were regulars".
Newlands House Gallery is located in Petworth, currently showing Adam Dant: 'Legends of Albion'. The exhibition showcases Dant's master draftsmanship and imaginative vision that combine to create humorous views of contemporary culture.
The Swan Inn, Fittleworth reopened on 2nd December following a refurbishment of this 14th Century Inn and promises 'Good food and drinks, done well'. The pub also boasts 12 rooms for a true West Sussex escape.
