The Trundle (or St Roche’s Hill to give it its official name) is located near Chichester and can be accessed using these South Downs National Park walking trails from Lavant, West Dean or Singleton. The name The Trundle comes from the Old English ‘Tryndel’ meaning circle, which refers to the remains of the Iron-Age Hillfort at the summit.
The views from the top are some of the best in our area, and take in expanses of stunning Sussex countryside and the coastal plain – the hill also overlooks the famous Goodwood racecourse.
Listen to BBC Radio Four’s Clare Balding and celebrated author Cressida Cowell as they walk the trail, visiting the locations which inspired some of the author’s best-selling books: https://bit.ly/TrundleWalkBBCR4
