Father's Day in West Sussex

Aptly named, the farmer, butcher and chef sit down each week and discuss the cuts of meat available, helping to shape an ever-changing, seasonal menu which ensures that nothing is wasted. The result is melt-in-your mouth dishes and means that Dad will have travelled further than the food on his plate.

Other great options for Father’s Day dining in West Sussex include The Crown and Anchor at Dell Quay and The White Horse at Chilgrove. Both come highly recommended and can work in tandem with a glorious walk on the doorstep. Alternatively, try The Fox Goes Free at Charlton, where the pub garden enjoys views of the spectacular countryside or the E.Street Bar and Grill in Petworth.

For dads who enjoy a drink with a view, West Sussex vineyards and breweries provide a brilliant Father’s Day treat. Anyone who appreciates a glass of bubbly is spoilt for choice in West Sussex, where Tinwood Estate, Ashling Park Estate, Stopham Vineyard, Kinsbrook and Roebuck Estates all wow with their delicious wines and gorgeous views. Book Dad onto one of the regular guided tours and tastings (even better, join him yourself) for a fascinating glimpse into the grape to glass process.

Beer lovers may prefer a visit to Langham Brewery, an award-winning, independent microbrewery nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park. Their passion for characterful, flavoursome ales using traditional and environmentally conscious brewing methods, produces beers to bring people together: look out for their live music events and food truck schedule for an event to suit. Or buy from their on-site shop and bring the brewery to Dad. 

If your dad prefers action over relaxation, West Sussex offers plenty of outdoor adventure experiences, not to mention some adrenaline-fuelled indoor ones too! For water sports fans, Dad can paddle Chichester Harbour with Fluid Adventures canoe and kayak tours, spotting wildlife on the banks (or the occasional harbour seal if he’s lucky) and stopping to sample local hospitality on the way. 

At West Wittering Beach, 2XS offers lessons in surfing, windsurfing and wing foiling. These high-energy activities are a great way to create lasting Father’s Day memories by the sea.

On dry land, cycling experts Marmalade MTB offer guided rides (you can even choose a ride and dine package) across the South Downs. Dad will feel the burn in his thighs and the views in his soul, with plenty of laughs along the way.

For the ultimate adrenaline rush, book him in for the Goodwood Race Simulator Experience where he will take on the twists and turns of the historic Goodwood motor circuit from the simulator suite. All the thrills with none of the risk!

History lovers will find plenty to enjoy in West Sussex, through a combination of historic vehicles and heritage attractions.

Tangmere Military Aviation Museum is home to an impressive collection of historic aircraft and has a unique collection of aviation memorabilia spanning the First World War through to the Cold War. There are numerous interactive displays as well as aircraft cockpits and simulators for visitors to experience.

The Weald and Downland Living Museum is a wonderful day out, offering free entry to the special father figure in your life (a full paying adult or child visitor must be in accompaniment and pre-booking online is recommended to claim). The museum is home to a fascinating collection of over 50 rescued rural buildings, where visitors can discover the stories of the people who lived and worked in them from Anglo-Saxon to Edwardian times.
