Step back in time as you join the annual celebration of Chichester's Roman heritage - Roman Week!
Roman Week brings an array of elements of Roman life to the modern day with talks, tours, workshops and hands-on family activities stretching over May half term holiday each year. Whether you choose to make your own Roman item or explore Roman history on a walk or boat trip, this is an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the Roman history that lies under our feet. Many activities take place in The Novium Museum - home of the Roman bath house remains - and some require pre-booking. The celebrations culminate in the epic Roman re-enactment day, where you can see Roman living history group Legio Secunda Augusta demonstrate how the Romans lived, fought and trained.
Roman re-enactment Day
Pack a picnic and head for Priory Park in Chichester for an unforgettable day of free of charge Roman activities. Discover what life looked like for a Roman soldier, how they looked after their armour and weapons and how they trained, then see them as they might have looked in battle. Learn about what punishments were given to Romans who broke the law. Delve into the life of Roman slaves as live interpretations help you imagine how you would have felt as an enslaved Roman, being bought and sold. One of the day's highlights is the chance to see gladiators in action and cheer on your favourites.
Have a go activities for 2026 include trying your hand at speaking Latin, and having a go at archery*.
