The debate around a tourism levy (also known as a tourism tax) is hotting up. This is a very important topic for our industry and TGSW wants to champion our community view.
In summary, the national government is considering giving new Mayors the power to create visitor levies on overnight stays. The aim is to spend money on tourism development in the area.
The pro is increased spend on tourism projects.
The con is adding to the price of overnight trips in a thin margin, highly taxed industry.
The concerns are mainly around how the money will be spent, where and to the benefit of whom.
Please answer the single question below - are you for or against the levy?
