Shop in Midhurst

Looking for unique, one-off shops? Then the pretty market town of Midhurst has everything you need.

Where is Midhurst?

Located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, Midhurst is just 12-miles from the historic city of Chichester and 20-miles from the white sandy beach of West Wittering. This vibrant and historic market town is known for its medieval Market Square, stunning Tudor buildings and delightful mix of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture.

Shops for all in Midhurst

Being the heart of the South Downs National Park, Midhurst is home to the South Downs National Park Visitor Centre, as well as a host of unique and independent shops. More independent shops and cafés in fact, than any other Sussex town.

The craft of horology (making clocks and watches) started in Midhurst as early as the 1700s and can still be seen today. Why not pop into one of Midhurst’s many jewellery and watch shops while you’re here, to get a glimpse into history?

But it’s not just horology, nor the locally made wine, ale and chocolate on offer that is such a hit with locals and visitors. You'll also find a wide selection of clothing, gifts, home décor, antiques and vintage items to tempt you as well an impressive a variety of food and drink establishments including the popular Cowdray Farm Shop and Café, part of the 16,500-acre historic Cowdray Estate.

Shopping at Cowdray

You will be spoilt for choice with the award-winning goods that are baked in-house at Cowdray Farm Shop. A large selection of artisan cheeses and charcuterie can be found at the deli counter, in addition to delicious fruit and veg, a butcher and a wide range of store cupboard choices handpicked by Cowdray's knowledgeable team. Gifts and plants are also on offer and worth a tempting browse.

Midhurst’s West Street and Knockhundred Row

You’ll find many of Midhurst’s independent shops on North Street. But once you’re finished there, you’re not done!

Take a left turn down Knockhundred Row to explore yet more independent shops as well as the Midhurst Museum, one of the smallest museums you may ever have the pleasure of visiting. Follow the road round to the right to find the Medieval Market Square and take a left onto West Street for the last of the independent shops, including those with links to Midhurst’s horology history.

You’ll be amazed by how much will keep you here and lure you back in this first-rate town.
