Hidden away up a rough track, the parish church of St Mary, Stoughton is a Saxon church dating from  the mid 11th century with only modernisation to the windows and doors.

Inside the church, there is an amusing brass in memory to a past vicar, Philip Harwood Francis. He is described as: athlete, teacher, mathematician, author and master of the short sermon. Clearly a popular chap amongst his parishioners!

Continue up a bridlepath past a memorial to a Polish airman shot down by a Messerschmitt in 1940 and upwards to Bronze Age burial mounds called The Devil’s Humps. From the top of Bow Hill there  there are stunning views across to Chichester Habour and Kingly Vale.
