Act Your Age is our (in-person) adult drama group for those who are interested in exploring drama through script reading and creative play. There are no lines to learn and there is no pressure to perform! It is open to all levels – whether you’re a seasoned performer or never got on a stage in your life, the emphasis is on having fun with drama!
Act Your Age runs as a block of 5 sessions. Each block is themed around one main script with weekly sessions including drama-based games, activities and tuition. Whilst we don’t work towards performances, we do arrange an informal recording in the last session (so participants have a record of their efforts).
The Summer sessions will be focused around Mike Leigh’s award winning play, Abigail’s Party This is a suburban situation comedy of manners, and a satire on the aspirations and tastes of the new middle class that emerged in Britain in the 1970s.
Each week ice-breakers, games and activities will encourage participants to explore the themes of the play while specific acting exercises will help them prepare for the final group read-through of the play (which will be informally recorded).
