Great Places to Shop

From the historic city of Chichester to the tiny villages which dot Chichester Harbour and along our wild and wonderful coastline, you’ll find interesting places to shop – whether it’s a souvenir to remind you of a weekend away or a thoughtful gift, you’ll find something to suit.

Chichester

Chichester’s four, yes four, main shopping streets radiate from the market cross, an elaborate, iconic landmark, a version of which has stood on this exact site since the early 13th century. Wander North, South, East or West and you’ll find some of your favourite chain stores but look a little closer and wander a little further into side streets and ‘pallants’ and you’ll discover Chichester’s array of independent stores offering everything from vintage clothing and homewares to food, flowers, records and jewellery.

Petworth

Shopping in Petworth is a world away from your usual high street affair. Dotted along quaint streets and cobbled lanes is a treasure trove of shops and boutiques where you’ll find everything from fashion and lingerie to cards and gifts, wine, flowers and indulgent homeware. If you’ve been to Petworth, you’ll also know that it has a well-deserved reputation as a destination for antiques shopping, with over 30 dealers operating within the town centre. Whether you’re a collector or just looking for that special something, there’s a huge variety of antiques to explore to suit all budgets. Art lovers are encouraged to explore here for the remarkable galleries where local and national artists are represented, and a diverse selection of tastes and budgets catered for.

Midhurst

This pretty market town which is home to the South Downs National Park Visitor Centre is known for its mixture of independent shops where you’ll find a huge selection of products to browse including clothing, gifts, home décor, antiques and vintage items, food and drink

East Wittering and the Harbour Villages

You’d be forgiven for your surprise at the wealth of shopping at East Wittering. Just a stone’s throw from the stunning shoreline you’ll find stores offering surf wear and watersports kit to a traditional butcher, fishmonger and bakery, a toy store and old-fashion sweet shop and an artisan chocolatier where you can sample the freshest hot chocolate.

Selsey

Selsey’s famous crab and lobster are perhaps the biggest draw for shoppers at this seaside town which still has a strong cultural connection to the sea thanks to its fishing fleet. Purchase freshly caught fish and seafood direct from the boats along Selsey’s East Beach.

Unexpected gems

Exploring a little off the beaten track can turn up real treasure. From Bosham’s tardis-like Bosham Walk where you’ll be greeted 13 unique stores selling a huge selection of arts and crafts including home décor, ceramics, cosmetics and more,. West Wittering’s Little Art Gallery showcases original work by local artists, as well as jewellery, textiles, ceramics and glass. Amid spectacular Sussex scenery, hunt out farm shops that boast locally reared meat and Sussex produce including fruit, vegetables, cheese, beer and even locally roasted coffee.
