Selsey’s bathing water has met the ‘Excellent’ standard, according to Southern Water, based on the results of water quality testing carried out by the Environment Agency during the 2019 bathing season.
Southern Water has been working in close partnership with Chichester District Council, Selsey Town Council and others, putting in place a range of interventions. These include measures to help prevent dog fouling on/near the beach -a key factor which can badly impact bathing water quality- and investing in a new storm-water storage sewer and improving local wastewater pumping stations.
The ‘Excellent’ rating for Selsey applies both to the 2019 bathing season alone and the official Defra ranking, which takes four years’ worth of water testing results into account.
Southern Water plan to continue to make more bathing water investment at Selsey.
