Fishbourne

Fishbourne is a small village just a few miles from the city of Chichester, perched at the top of the Chichester Channel, one of the creeks of Chichester Harbour.

What is there to see at Fishbourne?

Fishbourne is the home of the UK’s oldest and largest Roman dwelling, Fishbourne Roman Palace where you can see extraordinary mosaics and remains of the palace which was built around 75AD. 

Walkers can follow a walking route inspired by The Taxidermist's Daughter, Kate Mosse's best-selling novel. 

How can I explore Chichester Harbour from Fishbourne?

The harbour can be reached from the water meadow to the south of the village and where wildlife flourishes – kingfishers frequent the stream and many migratory birds overwinter in the harbour. From Fishbourne, walkers can traverse the many trails around the harbour, exploring the neighbouring waterside villages of Bosham, Dell Quay, Chidham and Itchenor along the way.

Cyclists can take the Salterns Way cycle path which winds through Fishbourne, onto the Manhood Peninsula, ending at the golden sands of West Wittering beach. Emperor Way cycle path connects the village with Chichester.

Fishbourne is just three miles from Chichester putting it within walking or cycling distance of this historic city. Fishbourne is served by a railway station and good bus links via Stagecoach to and from Chichester.
