A long weekend of gastronomic delights

With diverse soils and our position in one of the sunniest spots on the South Coast, it’s little wonder there are a variety of Sussex vineyards producing award-winning wines. Add to that vast areas of farmland and country estates which produce some of the highest quality, organic meats, cheeses, milk, and much more besides.

Here’s our suggested itinerary for a long weekend of culinary delights:

An image of fishing boats and nets on Selsey beach

Selsey

Begin your long weekend at the seaside town of Selsey – world renowned for the Selsey Crab,  fishing is still very much at the heart of this community. A fleet of fishing vessels are moored just off Selsey’s East Beach, and bring in the very freshest, sustainably caught, seafood; from Crab and Lobster to prawns and whelks, and a variety of local fish. Enjoy a seafood supper, and enjoy it on the shingled shore as you take in the dark skies made famous by Sir Patrick Moore.

Tinwood Estate and Goodwood

Tucked away in the peaceful Sussex countryside, but within easy reach of the historic city of Chichester is Tinwood Estate – established in 2006 Tinwood has fast gained a reputation for growing some of the best English sparkling wines. Enjoy a tour of the vineyard, and sample the wines as part a full tasting experience in the tasting room, which overlooks the vines.

The world-famous Goodwood Estate isn’t just home to it’s sporting events, it’s also one of the only self-sustaining organic farms in Europe. Their organic, home-grown produce, which includes beef, pork, lamb, milk, cheese and ale – is showcased within Farmer, Butcher, Chef – the Estate’s flagship restaurant, and is available in the Home Farm shop. Farmer, Butcher, Chef’s ‘nose to tail’ ethos means that all parts of the animals raised on the farm are utilised. Explore a menu filled with interesting cuts of meat and imaginative dishes. A must-visit for foodies!
