The wait is almost over as the 2021 Festival of Chichester launches with a bang! In a scintillating mix of outdoor, live and virtual events, the festival offers you the chance to be immersed in fun, culture and entertainment. Join the Festival online for the official launch at 2pm on Saturday 12 June and explore the what’s on for the fantastic first week.
There’s drama on the Cathedral lawn as the Lord Chamberlain’s Men present their take on the Shakespeare classic, Macbeth, or picnics with Charlie Chaplin as the Rude Mechanical Theatre perform Little Lily Harvey outdoors at Halnaker Park Cottage grounds, plus you can catch a preview of a new book with Kate Mosse at Chichester Festival Theatre.
Sit back and enjoy a concert with the Castalian Quartet at the Assembly Room, Chichester or thrill to the swell of the organ for a lunchtime concert at Chichester Cathedral.
There are art offerings aplenty – including Paint out Masters, an outdoor painting competition at the Cathedral, The Chichester Art Society at the Oxmarket, an Art Tail of studios, a focus on Frida Kahlo and Inspired by Light at the Little Art Gallery at West Wittering.
There’s a great choice of virtual entertainment, kicking off with Celebrating Keats – the Bicentenary, followed by a dramatic poem set to music with The Masks of Anarchy and for three days, beaming from the Vicars Hall, Chichester Free Fringe is live-streaming theatre, comedy, poetry, music, song and lots more. Eyes down for retro bingo with Dawn Gracie!
If you prefer a gentle stroll to enjoy our fine city you can experience a tour of the highlights of Chichester’s history or tour the city walls.
