“West Street in Midhurst Old Town is a hidden gem – blink and you’ll miss it. For those who just drive through on the A286 to Chichester or carry on along the A272 – you don’t know what you’re missing. We like to think of it as our ‘Bond Street’. Full of incredible small, independent businesses all striving to be the best they can be and going the extra mile to deliver a really personal service.
From The Crafty Pint selling an amazing array of local beers, gins and sparkling wines, to J E Allnutts, a longtime resident of West Street, with vintage watches, clocks and jewellery both antique and contemporary. Then there is Wizzbits – a delightful toyshop with everything that appeals to children young and old.
For lovers of vintage and antiques there is The Place on West Street, Olive Interiors, Caroline Bloomfield with a curated collection of pre-loved and her eponymous clothing range, and of course The Country Brocante Store whose Fair in the Square at the end of West Street brings together an eclectic and desirable collection of sellers that complement what is already on offer and brings the town alive.
As if that wasn’t enough there is also Down to Earth – a health food shop, a pet shop, The Notebook selling stationery and models, a newsagent, La Piazzetta Italian restaurant, The Bricklayers Arms, Jazz Walker Interiors with her upcycled furniture and last but not least my own venture – Stuff & Co (stuffandco.co.uk) and holiday rental West Street Loft housed in a renovated medieval building. When I first acquired the building after it had been empty for six years and was in danger of falling down I could never had dreamt that West Street would become such vibrant and joyful place, a destination that is worth making the time to visit – and then there is the rest of Midhurst as well!
What makes such a difference is that many of the business owners do themselves live in Midhurst, it is a place we love and are invested in, and especially over the last 18 months it has become clear just how much there is on offer in our town – for many they see it as a personal challenge to do all their Christmas gift and food shopping in Midhurst.”
